Background The project "Advancing Tobacco Taxation for a Healthier Pakistan" aims to advocate for increased tobacco taxes and raise awareness about the hazards of tobacco use, particularly among youth. The Communication Officer will play a critical role in developing and implementing communication strategies that promote project objectives, engage stakeholders, and enhance media advocacy efforts. Objectives of the Position The primary objective of the Communication Officer is to ensure effective communication and advocacy strategies that support the project’s goals of reducing tobacco consumption through increased taxation, public awareness, and policy engagement. Key Responsibilities Communication Strategy Development Develop a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with project goals and objectives. Identify key messages and target audiences to effectively communicate project initiatives. Media Engagement Build and maintain relationships with local, national, and international media outlets. Prepare and distribute press releases, media kits, and other communication materials. Organize press conferences, media briefings, and interviews to promote project activities. Stakeholder Communication Create communication materials for stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and health advocates. Assist in coordination with project partners to ensure consistent messaging and branding. Content Creation Work on content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and reports. Design and production of awareness materials such as brochures, flyers, and educational resources. Monitoring and Evaluation Track and analyze media coverage and public engagement related to tobacco taxation and health advocacy. Provide regular and monthly reports on communication activities and their impact on project objectives. Capacity Building Assist in facilitating training and awareness sessions for journalists and youth activists on effective tobacco control advocacy and health communication strategies. Facilitate workshops to enhance stakeholder understanding of tobacco-related issues and advocacy strategies. Qualifications and Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Health, or a related field. Experience: Fresh graduate Skills: Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives. knowledge of establishing media relations and social media management. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Familiarity with tobacco control policies and public health issues is an advantage. Working Conditions The Communication inten will work full-time on the project The position may involve occasional evening and weekend work for media events or workshops.
